Faculty Awards

Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior recognizes faculty who represent the highest standard of excellence.

Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior is home to many exceptional faculty who inspire trainees and colleagues, alike. The department recognizes a select number from this accomplished group each year for their outstanding contributions to teaching, mentorship, advocacy, and research. The awards are presented at graduation.

Faculty Awards

General psychiatry residents nominate and select a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in residency teaching. The award has been given annually since 1995.

Child and adolescent psychiatry fellows nominate and select a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in child and adolescent psychiatry teaching. The award has been given annually since 1995. In 2008, the award was named in honor of Henrietta Leonard, M.D., a former director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and the Triple Board Program.

In 2010, the award was named in honor of Toy Caldwell-Colbert, Ph.D., a former distinguished alumna visiting professor in clinical psychology and a graduate of Brown's Clinical Psychology Internship Training Program.

The award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching in one of the following psychiatry fellowship training programs: Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Women's Mental Health. The award began, in 2000, as a teaching award in geriatric psychiatry. Starting in 2023, the award is rotated annually among the fellowships. Trainees in that fellowship nominate and select the honoree.
