Research Training Programs and Fellowships
Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior has a long record of offering outstanding research programs and experiences for our trainees. The department is home to numerous research training opportunities and fellowships in psychiatry and psychology, preparing new scientists to advance discovery in the field of mental health.
Brown is one of a small number of departments in the country with a Research Education Program (R25) grant for psychiatry residents funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. The R25 sets the foundation for a successful independent research career through mentored, time-protected research opportunities and training in each postgraduate year of residency.
Fellows in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Women's Mental Health are offered protected time to facilitate the pursuit of a scholarly project under the supervision of a research mentor. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Research Training Track receives support from the NIH Research Education Program (R25).
The Clinical Psychology Internship Training Program provides three research experiences: a required Research Placement Program within their training track; and optional training opportunities in clinical settings or under faculty supervision.
The Research Fellowship Program (RFP) provides advanced research experiences and promotes the development of independent investigators. Areas of emphasis include: adult, child, health psychology/behavioral medicine, and neuropsychology.
