Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior strives to provide its trainees with excellent educational experiences that are respectful of individuals from all backgrounds. The Faculty Development Requirement, therefore, supports faculty members' growth as adept and trusted teachers, mentors, and supervisors.
About the Requirement
- Appointment: All individuals applying to be faculty at Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior must complete one hour of training focused on supervision, teaching, or mentoring prior to appointment.
- Reappointment/Promotion: Once appointed, all faculty are required to participate in at least two hours of training per year focused on supervision, teaching, or mentoring.
Proof of completion (e.g. a registration confirmation email or certificate) should be submitted with materials for appointment, reappointment, or junior promotion.
The new Faculty Development Requirement goes into effect July 2025. It replaces previous departmental faculty training requirements, such as the teaching development requirement for clinical faculty and the DEI/AR faculty education requirement.
Eligible Activities
Eligible activities include supervision, teaching, or mentoring trainings provided by the following entities:
- Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior
- The Warren Alpert Medical School's Program in Educational Faculty Development

The DPHB Education Committee has also compiled a list of suggested activities that meet the Faculty Development Requirement.
