Professor Mary A. Carskadon, Ph.D., director of the Chronobiology and Sleep Research Laboratory at E.P. Bradley Hospital, has received the 2023 V. Sagar Sethi, M.D. Mental Health Research Award from the Psychiatric Foundation of North Carolina for "significant contributions to basic research in the neurosciences, psychology, or pharmacology at a molecular, cellular or behavioral level."

The award was established with an endowment from a prominent long-time Charlotte, NC psychiatrist, the late Dr. Sethi. Carskadon accepted the award at a ceremony held in South Carolina on October 1 that recognized her extensive research dedicated to understanding the importance of sufficient sleep and regular sleep timing for brain development during childhood and adolescence.
