Professor Mary A. Carskadon, Ph.D., received the Leadership in Sleep Medicine Award from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin – Sleep (AAPIOS) at its annual meeting on June 2. The organization, which acts as a forum to exchange ideas and improve the awareness of sleep disorders in the United States and India, granted the award to Carskadon to recognize her outstanding contributions to sleep medicine over the course of her career.
Carskadon directs the E.P. Bradley Hospital Sleep Research Laboratory, an internationally recognized leader in the research of sleep and development. She is also the principal investigator for the E.P. Bradley Hospital Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) Center for Sleep and Circadian Rhythms in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, the first and only research center in the country to focus on sleep, circadian rhythms, and pediatric mental health.
