William Curt LaFrance, Jr., MD
Biography
Dr. LaFrance is Director of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology at Rhode Island Hospital (RIH), Staff Physician at the Providence VAMC and Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at Alpert Medical School, Brown University. He studied at Wake Forest University (BA in Psychology), Medical College of Georgia (MD) and Brown University (MPH). He trained in Brown University’s combined residency in neurology and psychiatry and is double boarded. He is the recipient of awards, recognitions and grants, including the American Neuropsychiatric Association’s Career Development Award, the AAN’s Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award, and Marquis’ Who’s Who in the World. He is a fellow in AAN, APA and ANPA. He has received foundation, NIH/NINDS and DoD grants for his research in neuropsychiatric aspects of epilepsy, somatoform disorders and TBI. His studies are published in neurology and psychiatry journals. He teaches and lectures at Brown, nationally and internationally. He has mentored over 60 students, residents, fellows and attendings in neuropsychiatric research. He is co-editor of Nonepileptic Seizures, and co-author of Taking Control of Your Seizures: Workbook and Therapist Guide.
