On June 10, members of the Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior community gathered for the first time since 2019 to mark the department’s 47th annual graduation. The evening, breezy and warm, was celebratory in spirit with faculty, trainees, and their families mingling beneath a white tent before the main ceremony in Alumnae Hall. Inside, Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior Chair Steven Rasmussen, M.D., delivered a speech to the audience followed by a series of faculty teaching awards.
“I hope that each of you has found mentors at Brown who will inspire you to instill hope in your patients, and you will strive to treat patients and their families as you would like to be treated," Rasmussen said. "I hope that you decide to ground yourself in values that last, like honesty, hard work, responsibility, fairness, generosity, and respect for others.”
Rasmussen also conveyed a message of hope for 2022’s graduating class of psychology and psychiatry residents and fellows.
“Over the next thirty years, you will contribute to a remarkable transformation in the way we conceptualize and treat mental illness,” he said. “I trust that each of you will find a lifetime of meaningful work in helping others.”
