Ally Stumper, Ph.D.
Biography
Ally Stumper, Ph.D. (Rhode Island Hospital, 7/1/22-10/20/24) received her B.A in psychology from Stony Brook University in 2011. After working as a post-baccalaureate research assistant at Stony Brook, she went on to earn her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Temple University. As a graduate student, her work focused on how the pubertal transition confers differential risk for internalizing problems in female adolescents. Ally completed her clinical internship at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and then transitioned to the T32 Research Training Program in Child Mental Health at Rhode Island Hospital (and subsequently the T32 Research Training Program in Adolescent/Young Adult Biobehavioral HIV Research) for her postdoctoral fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Jessica Peters. She sought training in menstrual cycle effects on psychiatric symptoms by working on Dr. Peters’ NIH-funded study on the ovarian steroid mechanisms of symptom exacerbation in Borderline Personality Disorder. As a postdoc, Ally was awarded an Early Career Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the 1st Place Postdoctoral Research Award at Brown University’s Mind Brain Research Day. In October 2024, Ally’s K23 on the ovarian steroid effects on mood and sleep across the adolescent menstrual cycle was funded, and she transitioned to her position as Research Scientist at EP Bradley Hospital. Ally is grateful to the many people who have supported her in this journey, including her partner, friends, and family, as well as the mentors who guided her through it.
