Andreas Kruse, M.D.
Biography
Dr. Andreas Kruse received his medical degree from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, where he was awarded a grant for an epidemiology research project at the Woolcock Institute in Sydney, Australia. He represented his medical school at Universidad Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the University of Minnesota, and during international rotations in Uganda, Italy, and Lithuania. Following his internship and medical licensure in rural Sweden, he specialized in general psychiatry at a Stockholm community program. He completed US psychiatry residency at the University of New Mexico, where he was appointed Research Chief and received the Rosenbaum Research Award for his project on neuroimaging in psychosis, and the Rural Community Award for his work with underserved communities. During the last six months of his residency, he was selected to represent his program in New Zealand, serving predominantly Māori and Pacific Islander patients with Serious Mental Illness. He expresses deep gratitude to his mentors at Brown, Drs. Wall, Matkovic, Lowenhaupt, Ugorji, and Kim, for their invaluable support. He also acknowledges the camaraderie of his fellow fellows, Dr. Khan and Dr. Duggins-Warf. After his fellowship, Dr. Kruse will serve as Senior Medical Officer at the Mason Clinic, Te Whatu Ora, Waitematā, Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service in New Zealand, delivering clinical services within the indigenous Extended Forensic Care program. He also wishes to thank his family, including his mother, cousin, uncle, and aunt, who are present today from Stockholm, Sweden, and his girlfriend, Mārama, who is present today from Aotearoa, New Zealand.
