David Forman, Ph.D.
Biography
David P. Forman, Ph.D. (Rhode Island Hospital, 9/1/24 – 8/31/25) graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in social work from Fordham University and earned his M.S. in social work from Columbia University. While working as a therapist and research assistant in addiction treatment clinics, he developed a passion for mindfulness-based therapies, motivational interviewing (MI), and clinical science. David earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of New Mexico (UNM), where he was mentored by Dr. Theresa Moyers and supported by a T32 grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, as well as grants from the Sandia Responsible Gaming Scholarship. His peer-reviewed publications include three meta-analyses on the efficacy of behavioral addictions interventions and several investigations on psychotherapeutic processes of change including the key finding that clients' language about change early in therapy can predict their responsiveness to MI. David completed his pre-doctoral internship at the VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland Consortium, receiving extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He is currently completing his postdoctoral fellowship in ACT at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University through the Partial Hospitalization Program at Rhode Island Hospital, where he provides individual and group therapy, and conducts research on ACT-informed processes of change. David plans to continue integrating science-informed treatment with treatment-informed science to promote valued living in all individuals. He is deeply grateful for the love and support of his family, friends, mentors, and his dog, Boyd.
