Fatima Dobani
Biography
Fatima Dobani earned her B.A. in psychology from Baylor University in 2015. After graduating, she worked as a clinical case manager, coordinating care for adults facing mental health concerns. She also sought out a research assistantship with Drs. Suzy Gulliver and Eric Meyer, researching the role of occupational stress with mental health among U.S. military Veterans and emergency responders. Interested in the intersection of social determinants and health-risk behaviors, Fatima pursued a Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a concentration in advanced quantitative methods at Syracuse University in 2019. Mentored by Dr. Aesoon Park, she investigated the etiology of alcohol and other substance use as well as sleep disturbances among youth. Her work on Multiracial youth alcohol misuse was supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Currently, Fatima is completing her clinical psychology pre-doctoral internship within the Adult Track at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. With research mentorship provided by Dr. Robert Miranda Jr., Fatima is focused on investigating momentary associations between affect and craving in youth with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and improving AUD treatment accessibility among youth. She looks forward to continuing this work as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. Fatima is grateful to every mentor and supervisor who invested in her training. She also has immense appreciation for her incredibly supportive family and friends.
