Frances “Frannie” Calkins, Ph.D.
Biography
Frances “Frannie” Calkins, Ph.D. (Women & Infants Hospital, 8/1/24-7/31/25) graduated with a B.A. in psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she continued on to receive her M.A. and Ph.D. under the mentorship of Dr. Rebecca Brock. Her research focused on improving interventions for couples and families by exploring the impact of pregnancy and the transition to parenthood on families. Specifically, her dissertation identified characteristics of infants that predict outcomes for parents 3 years later. Through this research, navigating barriers to equitable care in the U.S., and passion for providing quality services to underserved and marginalized populations, Frannie found her clinical “home” in advocacy and reproductive psychology. During her clinical psychology pre-doctoral internship with Emory University School of Medicine, Frannie worked with a diverse clientele in diverse settings, which ultimately led her to the Perinatal Mental Health postdoctoral fellowship within the Clinical Psychology Program at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Here, Frannie has been fortunate to provide a wide array of services to individuals and families navigating pregnancy and the postpartum period. After fellowship, Frannie is pursuing a job that allows her to continue her role as clinician and advocate for individuals experiencing reproductive transition. Frannie would like to express her deepest gratitude to the team at Day Hospital, her current and former mentors, colleagues, and collaborators for the wonderful support she received throughout her training. She is especially thankful for her partner, friends, family, and sweet dog, Nemo, for their ongoing support and love on this journey.
