
Jessica N. Smith
Biography
Jessica (“Jess”) N. Smith graduated with her B.A. in psychology summa cum laude and with departmental honors from Ohio University in 2018 before beginning her graduate training at Florida International University (FIU). Specifically, she attended the Clinical Science in Child and Adolescent Psychology Ph.D. program at FIU and completed the program’s Advanced Quantitative Coursework distinction. Under the mentorship of Drs. Joseph Raiker and Erica Musser, her program of research focused on the measurement of EF and mechanisms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) heterogeneity and its comorbidity with other mental health concerns of youth. Her dissertation, “Transdiagnostic Mechanisms of Youth Externalizing Psychopathology from Childhood to Adolescence: A Longitudinal Person-Centered Approach”, was funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (F31 MH129054). Additionally, she was the recipient of several honors, including the Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder “Young Scientist Research Award”, the FIU Department of Psychology “Excellence in Research” award, and her program’s “Graduate Excellence in Clinical Science” award. Jess was thrilled to match at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University for her clinical psychology pre-doctoral internship. At Brown, she worked under the mentorship of Dr. Jared Saletin to study the effects of sleep restriction on vigilance and the influence of ADHD, anxiety, and psychological stress. Next, she will begin a postdoctoral fellowship through the Developmental Psychobiology, Psychopathology, and Behavior T32 at the University of Colorado working under the mentorship of Dr. Marie Banich. Jess extends heartfelt thanks to the mentors, family, and friends who have supported her throughout her education.
