Joanna Georgakas, M.D.
Biography
Joanna Georgakas, M.D., graduated from Middlebury College in 2014 with a degree in Neuroscience and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. She spent the following three years at McLean Hospital working within the Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program before attending The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where she also completed a concentration in Medical Education. During residency, Dr. Georgakas served in many roles, including Chair of the Curriculum Committee and Chief Resident. She was named an AAGP Honors Scholar and received the inaugural AAGP MIT Future Clinician Educator Award in 2024. Her national leadership roles have included service within both the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP). Most recently, she was elected to the AAGP Board of Directors and is honored to serve as the MIT Chair. Dr. Georgakas will return to Boston to complete her Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship and plans to continue her career with a focus on medical education. She is grateful to her mentors, co-residents, friends, and family who have helped her become the physician she is today.
