She earned her B.S. in psychology from the University of Washington and her M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky. Martina’s research focuses on advancing suicide prevention through the development and enhancement of mechanism-based, transdiagnostic, and personalized interventions. Her dissertation, a randomized controlled trial of a single-session intervention targeting hopelessness and social connectedness among individuals with suicidal thoughts and behaviors, was funded by a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) F31. Her work has been recognized with several honors, including the Jesse G. Harris Dissertation Award, the Morgan T. Following internship, Martina will continue her training as a postdoctoral fellow at Brown with the Research Fellowship Program (RFP), where she will focus on optimizing and scaling mechanism-focused interventions for suicide prevention, including integrating technology and implementation science approaches. Her long-term goal is to become an independent clinical scientist developing precise, scalable interventions that reduce suicide risk across diverse populations.
