William Andrew Engel, M.D.
Biography
William Andrew Engel, M.D., grew up in Minnesota before attending Bowdoin College, where he majored in neuroscience and completed an honors thesis on the effects of mindfulness meditation on long-term memory. He attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where his interest in child psychiatry was solidified through volunteering on the inpatient child psychiatry unit and teaching kids how to take care of plants and create art projects. He completed adult psychiatry residency at Dartmouth Hospital in Lebanon, NH, and developed a particular interest in preventive medicine and the effects of physical exercise on mental health. Throughout his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, he has especially enjoyed working with kids struggling with anxiety and OCD, particularly in outpatient clinic and the partial hospitalization programs. After graduation, he is excited to return home to Minnesota to practice outpatient psychiatry and work with children, teens, and young adults.
