About
Chris Breault, a senior data scientist at the Brown School of Public Health, provides no-cost data management services to faculty at Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior. The goal is to help faculty members complete small projects, such as internal grants or those supported by K and small R grants (e.g. R03, R21, R34) from the NIH and other sponsors. Capacity is limited; depending on demand, there may be a waitlist for services.
Schedule an appointment with Breault to discuss your project's unique needs.
Services
- REDCap setup and training. REDCap is a secure web application for online surveys that is specifically designed for research studies, HIPAA/IRB-compliant, and Brown/Brown University Health-approved.
- Large data file manipulation. Large data files, such as activity and heart rate monitors, can be condensed and merged into usable data.
- Creation of tailored database systems. Breault uses SQL to construct robust, all-encompassing database systems with MS Access front ends and easy-to-use interfaces. Databases feature screener entry, contact tracking, AE/medical tracking, randomization, data entry, audit system, reports, and automated letters. Each system includes a customized task list that tracks subjects from start to finish and a synopsis of where each subject is throughout the course of a study.
- Data formatting. All assessments are scored and datasets provided in a preferred format (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R) with variable and value labels.
Eligibility
All faculty at Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior are eligible for data management services, although priority will be given to the department's early-career researchers.
Data for research conducted at Brown University, Brown University Health, Care New England, and the VA may remain on those institutions’ local servers. Breault can access the data without additional login credentials or data transfer use agreements.
