What is Implementation Science?
Research can't improve lives until it reaches practice. Yet it takes approximately 17 years for only 14% of research evidence to be used in routine care. Implementation science is the study of how to bridge this gap by understanding what helps evidence-based innovations be adopted, implemented, and sustained in real-world settings.
Implementation science helps people:
- Understand barriers and facilitators to implementation
- Develop practical strategies that support adoption and use
- Plan for sustainability from the beginning
- Maximize the real-world impact of evidence-based innovations
